what have we been up to?
If you’ve been following us for a while then you’ll know that we are rejecting the industry’s static sizing and instead embracing truly bespoke custom-fit. As bra-wearers, we’re all so tired of standardised sizing and the frustration of navigating thousands of styles across hundreds of brands to work out which ones actually fit us.
We believe that bras should be simple, so we’ve been building out the first step of our solution!
We sat down with hundreds of you—the real people wearing bras day-in-day-out—to find out what your pain points are and how we can help create a new era of bra fit that is easily understandable and made for you.
We didn’t want to build another generic sizing quiz that only perpetuates the current broken system, so we’ve created something completely new: the under+beneath Fit Profile, the first step towards our custom bra process.
Here’s the dream we’re working towards: you take your measurements at home, they transform into a pattern shaped around your body, and a maker in your own country creates your unique bra. Local, on-demand, zero waste, and zero standardised sizing.
We haven’t quite hit that pattern generation phase yet, but we have been working on the foundation that makes that possible: our Fit Profile. A new way of approaching bra fit.
what is the under+beneath Fit Profile?
Our Fit Profile is a guided measurement process that takes 13 measurements from across your chest—along with a couple of questions about shape and support—to generate a custom fit profile that is completely unique to you.
We’ve moved beyond simply gathering overbust and underbust measurements and instead take measurements that take the entire chest into account. We assess breast shape, where your breast tissue sits, the length of your torso, and more, to create a truer depiction of what your body truly looks like — a far throw from the static sizing of classic bra grading.
The entire process takes around 10 minutes and has been designed to be completed with just a mirror and a measuring tape.
The measurements you provide for this Fit Profile will provide the basis for your future custom-fit, locally-made under+beneath bra once we go live. Plus, your custom profile is endlessly editable, meaning you can update it if and when your body changes. A fit process that truly adapts and grows with you.
All of the data gathered from our wonderful user’s Fit Profiles helps to shape our Fit Algorithm, which will generate our custom bra patterns. Meaning each person who submits their measurements contributes a unique building block to the future of under+beneath!
